Off to the Orient

Okay, the photo is totally unrelated, but I had to put something up. Wellington is like the frozen circle of hell this evening, so I'm pleased to be going away!

I'm off to China (specifically Beijing) and (later) Singapore on Tuesday. Naturally, I'm going as an academic, rather than a photographer - so I can't really promise a wonderful porfolio of insightful photos. Infact, most of the time I will be 'on conference' in a most unphotographic way.

Anyway, it all promises to be interesting. Google Earth informs me that the hotel is 9km from Tiananmen Square, right next to the Olympic village. I might get some photos like this. Or, perhaps not.

Next update will be July 4th or thereabouts. Wish me luck!

New Gallery: Club Rugby

I stumbled across a club rugby game today, so I took a few photos... I don't know who was playing, but the black and white team dominated.

There's not much to say about this photo, other than that I took it at the Module concert in January, on my first night back in Wellington after the summer holiday. Broadly speaking the composition features three triangles and a parallelogram. The colours are true to reality, and can best be described as 'wild'. There were quite a few people shuffling along the path behind me, probably wondering why I had my camera pointed in the opposite direction to the music... Technical stuff = 18mm, f5.6, 6s at ISO200, no flash. Shot in RAW and converted in Photoshop CS2.
