Beat Girls

The last act of the Wellingtonia Live Festival featured this trio. They did the whole 1940s and 50s style of music thing. It was a full house, so after vacating my seat in a futile quest for a better angle on things, I found myself at the back of the crowd bemoaning my 5'10"...

A new take on some old trees (larger version, if you need more pixels)

RPNYC Sailing Winter Series (Race 3)

A photographically difficult day as the yachts raced well away from the shore. As is customary, Pretty Boy Floyd ran away from the others and took line honours.

RPNYC Sailing Winter Series (Race 2)

I missed race 1 due to the China excursion, but yesterday's race was an interesting affair despite some light winds at the start.

The race committee set up the start way down in Evans Bay, so there was a bit of a walk involved to catch the start. Pretty Boy Floyd won (as usual).

Giant Panda

In complete contrast to the rest of the zoo inmates, the Pandas seemed to have quite a luxurious and well appointed enclosure. A few minutes of impatient waiting in the heat afforded a great view as the Panda got up, wandered over to the pool for a drink, and then wandered back...

Beijing Zoo

It's hard to know what to say about this place... A 3rd world zoo would be one way to describe it. A complete disgrace to humanity in general and China in particular would be another. See for yourself:

Smog

The taxi back to the hotel included a not-so-free lap of the city, thanks...
