Meerkat

1 - Well, I learned something today - Meerkat is spelt with a 'k'... who'd have thought? Anyway, in photo equipment news, this particular trip to the zoo was to test my rejuvenated Sigma 100-300mm f4 EX IF HSM APO telephoto lens - a brief holiday in Melbourne for focus calibration and servicing seems to have done wonders for both contrast and sharpness. A quick check this week revealed that it now matches the Nikkor AFS 70-200mm f2.8 G IF-ED VR in optical performance. Although the Nikkor lets 2x more light through, the Sigma provides a field of view equivalent to 450mm (rather than 300mm), with is pretty useful for birds, zoos, and boats. Both teles weigh something like 1.5kg each, so travelling with both is out of the question.
