New Photos: Volvo Yachts

A couple of fresh photos from the Volvo Ocean Race's departure from Wellington last weekend. See the rest of the photos here.

New Photos: The Volvo Yachts

Plenty of action out on the harbour, as Movistar and ABN Amro battled to the finish (they were 9s apart at the line)

The Pirates of the Caribbean arrived in third...

Kiwi Stuart Bannatyne talking to the press

Mike Sanderson (another kiwi) skipper of ABN Amro 1

Five Olympic medals for this guy (Torben Grael)

Aarrrrrrgh!

South American music on Saturday night

Not quite sure why the bellhop was unpacking suitcases, and then packing them up again...

Devotees of the Rhumba...

Uhhh... okay....

On TV again...

Off they go...

New Photos: Aircraft

I took a walk around Evans Bay today, and did some plane spotting (amongst other things)... here are a few to look at:

I've been trying to get an angled/head-on rotation shot for a while. I thought I'd found the perfect spot today, but after waiting around for 20min this was the best I could manage:

This is (a bit) of a crop from the original:

Back to the drawing board I think.

New Photos: No White and the Seven Well Hung [Over] Dwarfs

A few visitors to Welly in honour of the Sevens competition. I won't mention the dwarfs' names - perhaps someone might add a comment??!!

I've put a 1280px version here
Craig's eyes were shut in the original, so I had to paste in some new ones.

Breakfast at 'Lido':

It's a great disguise...

Craig viewing the 50mm with some suspicion.

...and by me this time. Nivi really can't complain that she isn't photographed enough...

and at the back the coach Gordon Tietjens (Thanks!)

Traditional dress of some kind - I would've guessed Holland, but the Dutch aren't in the competition

If you look closely at the original, you can't see me at all!

I'm guessing this is a zebra...

John F, Marilyn, and Ronald... and Mr Nixon was in the front...

New Photos: Evening Wanderings

I took the camera for a walk up to Mt Victoria yesterday evening...

You can see for miles from the top of Mt Victoria - this is the view towards the Airport (on the right), and you can see the South Is beyond...

I've put a 1024px version here if you want a wallpaper version (don't forget to centre it:).

I finished the book on composition today - I'm not sure (yet) if I'm better for it, but I am looking at photos, and art in general rather differently now. So, I guess that's a good result.
