American Indians in Cuba St

Here's something you don't see every day in Cuba St. - these American Indians (perhaps Cherokee if their CD title was anything to go by) drew quite a crowd.

Dockside

Spirit of New Zealand floated in and tied up at Queen's Wharf, so I figured a quick look was in order. I really need to get away from this 'foreboding' thing, it was actually a perfectly sunny day...

6 - things were a little more packed over at Main Stage

7 - Kora finishing their set...

8 - the pan pipe guy kept drawing crowds on Cuba St.

9 - possibly the world's youngest DJ

10 - he squirted me with a water pistol

13 - one of the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra players with suitable footwear

14 - the alleyway was a scenic alternative to the crowds on Cuba St.

15 - the Bodyfx tent was popular (no surprises there) - the painting seemed to take all day

Cuba Street Carnival: Saturday Night

Saturday's main event was the night parade. Before things got started, I took a photo tour around the preparation area, on the hunt for a few unusual compositions. The light was disappearing, so my resolution to shoot the whole thing without a flash took a bit of a beating...

1 - I'm reminded of the subservient chicken, but of course this is a seagull

2 - one of the bodyfx models ready to parade

3 - strike a pose!

4 - somewhere out there... is a very cold bird...

5

6 - the parade got under way, I positioned myself on the pedestrian island on the corner of Cambridge Terrace and Courtney Place. A perfect spot, as it turned out... I tried all sorts of flash + long exposure combinations in a heroic attempt to show mood, movement, and energy...

7 - leading the band...

8 - NZ Army drummers, making a lot of noise...

9 - a little tank
