ANZAC Day Dawn Ceremony

"In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields." ~John McCrae

The Merits of Chocolate Cake

Saturday night featured a multicultural (but then, aren't they all?) not-quite-party-more-of-a-gathering at the flat... I cooked the icecream:

Dinner @ Zibibbo

1 - Grace was visiting from Brisbane, so we Ghuznee St denizens headed out for dinner at the Wellington restaurant Zibibbo. Think big white plate/ small food...

2 - I figured a grainy approach would suit these scenes, so digital grain was encouraged at every stage

3 - 1/4s, f1.8, ISO 1600

4 - nice background :)

The Wedding of Deborah and Kynan

Deborah kindly asked me to come along to her wedding and take a few photos. Emily has written a bit about the big day here.

It was a wonderful wedding, and from a photographic point of view, it couldn't have been easier. Everyone was very nice, and pretty as well (which helps!).

Feel free to bookmark this link for easy access.

SCCNZ Easter Sprints at Pukekohe

The Sports Car Club of New Zealand (SCCNZ) hosted a sprint day at Pukekohe Raceway last Sunday. Dad had his latest toy (a 1960s Orchid Special) ready to go - so I went along to watch and take some photos.

1 - this red rotary thing was blindingly fast...

2 - ...until it caught fire at the hairpin. Here's the burnt out version.

3 - very nice. How much?

5 - Dad at speed in the Orchid

6 - experimentation with some different camera techniques didn't really work out. This is a combined pan/zoom/long exposure

7 - ugly and fast...

8 - Mazda RX-7

The day's results are here (.rtf file).

Achooo!

I'm back in Wellington, and I'm now the proud owner of (a) a cold, and (b) a very nice Asus Z53J laptop (1.6Mhz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 1Gb Ram, 100Gb hard drive, Windows Vista).

Needless to say, the laptop is great, and the cold isn't.

Vista seems to work well - I had a bit of a battle trying to get it to show image thumbnails for my RAW files, but fortunately irfanview came to my rescue. Vista's habit of endlessly confirming and re-confirming whenever I want to do something is going to get old rather quickly.

I'll put some photos up when I'm up to speed - coming attractions include Deborah and Kynan's wedding, and a day out watching a practice and test day at Pukekoe Raceway.

Technical Difficulties

Due to unforeseen circumstances (my laptop died... again) the next update will be after Easter.

No, really!
