A Life Lived In Skin

I've had the honour of catching EyeSoar Dance Theatre's 'A Life Lived In Skin' in both rehearsal and performance over the last few days.

From the programme:
'A Life Lived in Skin' is the tale of many people through one person. Part biography, part fairy-tale, it tells the story of a woman passing through memories, countries, and eras, where the dimensions of space and time are not as they appear in everyday existence.

The concept is about the cyclic nature of being. How generations come and go. How each one of us has within ourselves many influences and experiences enabling us to present our different skin to the world at different times in our life.

Global Dance Celebration 08

DANZ (Dance Aotearoa New Zealand) organised the Global Dance Celebration 08 event - hosted at Te Papa's Soundings Theatre, as part of the Dance Your Socks Off! Festival.

A surprising highlight of the event was a slightly terrifying set featuring two dancers painted in white, and some facial expressions that had to be seen to be believed...

More from the Dance Your Socks Off! Festival - the Kilbirnie Roller Disco (2008 edition) was one crazy affair...

Reading Courtenay Dance Fest 2008

This year's edition of the Reading Courtenay Dance Fest featured a host of young (and young-ish) performers including Musical Stars, The Tap Arts Project, Orleta Polish Dance Group, Sirocco Middle Eastern Dancers, Moonjelly Bellydance, and Les Mills Body Jam...

The Dance Fest is one of the feature events in the 2008 Dance Your Socks Off! Festival.

The Eiffel Tower Wedding Party

"The Eiffel Tower Wedding Party transports Jean Cocteau's 'monstrous reality' from 1920s Paris to 2008 Wellington in a surrealist dance theatre affair. Three Spoon Theatre bring their vivacious blend of quirky comedy and energetic zing to Cocteau's madcap mirage through a visually assaulting exhibition of dark thoughts, explosive declarations and pretty postcards.

Directed by Brigid Costello and accompanied by the whimsical melodies of Yann Tiersen, Eiffel Tower bewilders and amuses with the adventures of a misbehaving camera, a peculiar pair of phonographs and an utterly bizarre wedding party"

I caught these guys in rehearsal at BATS Theatre, where they're performing until September 6 as part of the Wellington City Council sponsored Dance Your Socks Off! Festival

Dance Your Socks Off Festival Programme Launch

1 - The end of last month featured the programme launch for next month's Dance Your Socks Off! Festival: there were a few speeches and a bunch of people dancing the Charleston, as well as some hip-hoppers... I was there to capture a few scenes (if you call ISO6400, 1/15s at f1.8 'capturing' - it was really, really, really dark)
